Abstract:
Nanoparticles, which were initially obtained only in the laboratory, have become increasingly easy to produce and are moving toward industrial-scale production. This paper discusses the main methods for synthesizing nanoparticles, including “topdown” and “bottom-up” approaches, especially those employed to produce ceramic nanoparticles. However, it should be noted that nanoparticles occur spontaneously in nature and are also produced accidentally in the form of by-products of numerous reactions and manufacturing processes. Recent important discoveries about the impact of these nanoparticles on the environment and on human health are discussed, raising questions about the creation of specific protocols for the characterization of these nanoparticles and drawing attention to issues involving toxicology, ecotoxicology and occupational health.
